In 1976 Nice, Agnès Le Roux, daughter of the Palais de la Méditerranée's owner, falls in love with Maurice Agnelet, a handsome lawyer ten years her senior. Against this backdrop of high-stakes casino wars, Fratoni, a rival of Agnes' mother, offers Maurice three million francs to take control of the casino. Agnes accepts the offer but feels betrayed by Maurice. After attempting suicide, Agnès disappears.
