Story

The movie 'Mary Queen of Scots' (2013) chronicles the life and reign of Mary Stuart, beginning with her childhood in France where she was expected to become Queen. After her husband's death, she returns to Scotland to find a country ravaged by war. Meanwhile, Elizabeth I has become Queen of England. Mary seeks support from her 'twin sister' but is instead imprisoned upon arrival in England. Mary marries Lord Darnley and gives birth to an heir, but finds him lacking. She then falls for the Earl of Bothwell and orders Darnley's murder to marry him. The nobles spurn her due to this act, leading to a bloody battle that Mary aims to avert by giving up Bothwell. In desperation, she turns to Elizabeth for help, who imprisons her. After 19 years in captivity, Mary is executed at the order of Elizabeth.
