In the year 2078 on Sirius 6B, a mining planet decimated by war for a decade, scientists have created Screamers - self-replicating, blade-wielding androids designed to hunt and destroy enemy life forms. However, these killing devices continue to evolve independently and now pose a threat to all life on the planet. Colonel Hendricksson (Peter Weller), commanding a handful of Alliance soldiers still alive, decides to negotiate a separate peace with the opposing New Economic Bloc forces amidst this deadly environment where the very weapons he helped create hunt them.
