Her film credits include 'Little Women' (1994), 'Romeo + Juliet' (1996), 'The Hours' (2002), and 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines' (2003). She attended Yale University from 1998 to 2000 before returning to acting. In the stage production 'Stage Beauty' (2004), Danes plays Maria, an aspiring actress who challenges gender roles in theater by auditioning for traditionally male parts.
