Full Biography
DeWanda Wise, born in Jessup, Maryland and raised in Woodlawn, Laurel, and Baltimore, began her acting career during high school at Atholton High School under theater director Nathan Rosen. She attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in drama and urban studies, while working as a resident assistant and stocker at Trader Joe's during her undergraduate years. Wise rose to prominence playing the lead role of 'Nola Darling' in Spike Lee's Netflix series 'She's Gotta Have It' (2017), a contemporary update of his 1986 film.
