Lara Fabian, born Lara Sophie Katy Crokaert on January 9, 1970 in Etterbeek, Brussels, Belgium, is a Belgian-Canadian pop singer and songwriter who has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Born to a Belgian father and Sicilian mother, she spent her early childhood in Catania, Sicily, before moving to Quebec in 1991. She began her musical journey at the age of eight when her parents enrolled her in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In the late 1980s, Fabian gained European recognition by representing Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest with 'Croire,' which reached fourth place and became a hit across Europe. Moving to Montreal in 1990, she released her debut album 'Lara Fabian' in Canada, which sold over 100,000 copies and went gold and platinum within two years. Her subsequent albums, particularly 'Carpe diem' (1994), further solidified her success with multiple awards and nominations.
