Emily Margaret Watson OBE, born January 14, 1967 in London, England, began her career on stage and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1992. She gained international recognition for her debut film role as Bess McNeil in Lars von Trier's 'Breaking the Waves' (1996), a nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Watson continued to appear in notable films like 'The Boxer', 'Angela's Ashes', 'Punch-Drunk Love', and 'Red Dragon'. She won the British Independent Film Award for Best Actress for her role as Jacqueline du Pré in 'Hilary and Jackie' (1998). More recently, she received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role in 'Chernobyl' and a BAFTA win for 'Appropriate Adult'.
