Irene Cara Escalera, born March 18, 1959, was an American singer and actress who gained fame as Coco Hernandez in the film 'Fame' (1980). She sang and co-wrote the song 'Flashdance... What a Feeling', for which she won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Cara also starred in the 1985 film 'Certain Fury'. Tragically, she passed away on November 25, 2022.
