Meryl Streep, born Mary Louise Streep on June 22, 1949, is an American actress widely regarded as one of the greatest of her generation. Known for her versatility and accent adaptability, she has had a career spanning over five decades, during which she has received numerous accolades. These include a record 21 Academy Award nominations, winning three, and 32 Golden Globe Award nominations, winning eight. Streep is particularly recognized for her role in 'Silkwood' (1983), a film based on the true story of Karen Silkwood, an Oklahoma nuclear-plant worker who blew the whistle on dangerous practices at the Kerr-McGee plant.
