Nicolette Krebitz was born and raised in West Berlin, Germany. She studied classical dance at Berlin's Ballett Centrum and later graduated from the Fritz Kirchhoff Drama School with an acting diploma in 1992. Krebitz began her professional acting career in 1982. In 1999, she directed her own film called 'Jeans'. Since then, she has worked alternately as a director and actress. Notably, she was awarded the Berlin Art Prize by the Academy of Arts in the Film and Media Art category in 2019.
