Stana Katic, born Stana Valeria Katić in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, is an actress of Serbian descent with four brothers and one sister. She began her acting career in theater at Trinity College School, later studying at University of Toronto and DePaul University Goodman School of Drama. Post-graduation, she appeared on shows like 24, The Closer, CSI: NY, and Damages before being cast as Kate Beckett on Castle (2009–2016). Her performance earned her awards such as People's Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic TV Actress and Shorty Award for Best Actress. In 2017, she starred in Absentia (2017–2020) as FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne, earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
